Position Summary:
Electrical Safety Support, a rapidly growing third-party, electrical testing and consulting company is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Testing Engineer to support our service offerings in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. Individual is expected to provide safe and reliable electrical maintenance service while maintaining compliance with all safety regulations and other regulatory requirements. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of Mountain View, CA or be willing to relocate to be considered for this position.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Actively promotes safe work practices in accordance with ESS’s strong commitment to safety.
Ensure a safe work environment and manage overall safety.
Effective communication (written and verbal), organizational and interpersonal skills.
Collects, verifies, and analyzes information relevant to electrical distribution systems for the purposes of arc flash system studies, including information relative to interfaces between functions, activities, and processes.
Communicates progress as appropriate and conducts follow-up activities.
Develops written reports describing findings, observations, and opportunities for improvement.
Ensures maintenance work, including proactive, preventative, and corrective, is completed as scheduled and to quality expectations, while monitoring compliance to standards and specifications.
Identifies and pursues productivity improvements and implements work practices to reduce operating costs while meeting corporate and regulatory compliance.
Troubleshooting capabilities, low and medium voltage switchgear testing through 15 kV class.
Perform tasks such as testing of circuit breakers, switchgear, and motor control centers.
Electrical testing and maintenance of electrical power distribution systems
Busduct installation, inspection & testing.
Instrument transformer tests & Power transformer testing – Power Factor, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.
Cable testing - Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot
Automatic transfer switch troubleshooting
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma plus 5 years of relevant electrical testing experience plus 1 year of experience leading testing personnel and projects
Experience with safety systems and safety components to protect employees, customers, and equipment.
Good theoretical understanding of electrical power systems
Proficient with Microsoft office suite
Must be able to pass a pre-employment, periodic and random drug screenings.
Willing to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and night work.
Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move 100-pound test sets.
Possess a valid driver’s license, and currently have and be able to maintain a safe driving record.
Desired Qualifications
NETA certification or relative electrical testing certification
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Focus and an Associate Degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power, or similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Nuclear Electrician)
Familiarity with National Electric Code (NEC)
Experience with PLC Programming
